Dawn’s relationship with the WBCC began as a volunteer in 1994 while her mother and grandmother were both being treated for breast cancer. They passed away within six months of each other, inspiring Dawn to become more involved. She joined the Board of Directors in 1999, serving six years, including three years as Board President. She served as Executive Director from 2006 until her retirement in 2015.
Dawn has served on The Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program, the Government Relations Advisory Committee of the WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, The Policy Committee of the Wisconsin Cancer Council, The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Task Force, and ABCD Inc.’s Advisory Board. She was a Team Leader and past alternate Board Member for the National Breast Cancer Coalition and was proud to be recognized as the 2015 Woman of Commitment Award by the Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health. In 2019, she received the WBCC’s Lifetime Achievement Award and continues to serve on the WBCC Policy Committee.
In retirement, Dawn is enjoying living on Okauchee Lake in Oconomowoc with her husband, Roy, and their Irish Terrier, Hogan. She loves hiking in the Kettle Moraine, kayaking on the lake and surrounding rivers, birding, train travel and thinking about finishing the book she started writing 10 years ago.
Dawn’s profile is part of an ongoing series. Visit the Meet Our Team page to read more about featured WBCC members.
