It is my honor to work with WBCC to not only support the good work of the organization but to also be a voice of those who are not at the table but are fighting the fight. I strive to work collaboratively within my community and with clinical partners to bring awareness of the importance of early detection through screening and access to quality care. This care includes access to providers, treatments and clinical trials that can further the knowledge of how to beat this disease. Volunteering with WBCC provides the opportunity to support efforts in this area while also bringing the voice of the community to the table.
Debra R. Nevels, MSHCM currently works with the Medical College of Wisconsin as the Program Manager for Community Outreach and Engagement for the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. She most recently worked as Manager for Health Systems — Hospitals Wisconsin for the American Cancer Society (7 years). She is also currently Adjunct Faculty at Concordia University in the College of the Health Services Administration program.
Throughout her educational career, she strived to take advantage of opportunities to learn from others and share that wealth of knowledge. Although she has completed her educational pursuits, she considers herself to be a lifelong learner. Her experience is extensively rooted in health care; however, it all culminates with the interest in educating others. She has worked with under resourced populations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Texas. Her innovative initiatives for community outreach and community building have impacted populations throughout the country; however, her passion remains with promoting health education for those impacted negatively by determinants of health.
Debra’s profile is part of an ongoing series. Visit the Meet Our Team page to read more about featured WBCC members.
